You can easily install WordPress on your domain name by using a web hosting package. This article explains how to get started with WordPress at TransIP.
Your domain name
In order to start building a WordPress website, you will first need a domain name. The domain name is the address which your visitors enter in their browser to visit your WordPress website.
Afterwards you choose one of our web hosting packages to install WordPress on. Click on one of the boxes below to get started right away!
- I already own a domain name at TransIP
Awesome! Head over to 'Choose a web hosting package'.
- My domain name is registered elsewhere
If you already own a domain name which is not registered with TransIP yet, you will need to transfer the domain name to TransIP first.
Follow the steps in the article 'Transfering my domain name to TransIP' and add a web hosting package during the transfer procedure.
When you've transfered your domain name to TransIP and added a web hosting package to it, head over to the section 'Installing WordPress'.
- I do not own a domain name
Once you've registered a domain name, head over to the section 'Choose a web hosting package'.
- I own a domain name with a web hosting package
Excellent! Head over to 'Installing WordPress'.
Choose a web hosting package
In order to start with WordPress, you need to add a web hosting package to your domain name.
Already own a web hosting package for your domain name? Then head straight over to 'Installing WordPress'!
Use the following steps to order a web hosting package for your domain name.
Visit your control panel and head to the tab 'Domains & Hosting' at the top of the page. Next, select your domain name on the left hand side (don't check the box).
Scroll down to 'Order extras' at the bottom of the page and press 'Order' next to 'Launch lightning fast websites'.
You will now see an overview of our different web hosting packages. Select one of these webhosting packages. The smallest package is a great choice to start a relatively small WordPress website. If you need more databases, email addresses or web space, you can always choose to upgrade your web hosting package at a later time.
Take note: The Email Only and Forwarding Service are only suited for email and forwarding purposes. These products don't contain web space to create your website on.
Once you've made a choice, click on 'Order' followed by 'Pay' to finalize the order of your web hosting package.
Once your order is processed, your web hosting package will be active after a few minutes. Head over to 'Installing WordPress' to, you guessed it, start installing WordPress!
You can install WordPress the moment your web hosting package is active in your control panel.
Once in your control panel, visit the tab 'Domains & Hosting' at the top of the page and select your domain name on the left hand side (don't check the box). If you see the web hosting icon next to your domain name (as shown below), the web hosting package is active.
If that's not the case, wait a few minutes and refresh the page until the icon is visible.
Once your web hosting package is active, click on the cog wheel next to 'Your website', followed by 'Install WordPress'.
Once you're all set, it's time to press the 'Install' button. The installation of WordPress will automatically start and the progress is shown on the same page.
If you see the message from the image below after clicking the 'Install' button, there are insufficient databases available to install WordPress. Read the article 'Insufficient databases available to install WordPress' for more information on how to solve this.
Configuring WordPress on your domain name
Once the installation is complete, you will see a notification as shown in the image below.
The notification tells you to visit your domain name to start configuring WordPress. If the domain name is still being registered or transfered, you can start configuring WordPress by visiting the TransURL link.
The TransURL is your domain name, followed by .transurl.nl. As you might have guessed, you can use the TransURL to work on your website at TransIP if your domain name is not available yet or if your domain name doesn't point to your web hosting package yet. If you perform the installation using the TransURL, it will also apply to your own domain name.
Your domain name's TransURL is emailed to you directly after ordering a web hosting package. The email will be sent to the email address listed in 'My account' of your control panel.
Once your domain name's DNS records point to your web hosting package, your WordPress website will become visible on your domain name. The TransURL doesn't need to be deactivated.
After visiting your domain name (or the TransURL), you will be asked to choose a language. Press 'Continue' to view the WordPress installation window as shown in the image below.
- Site Title: Enter the title of your WordPress website here.
- Username: This is the username for logging into your WordPress Dashboard.
- Password: A complex password will be entered by default. You can change this password into something else if you wish. This password is also used for logging into your WordPress Dashboard.
- Your Email: Enter the email addres you wish to use for password recovery.
- Search Engine Visibility: Check this box if you'd rather not have search engines indexing your website. As the small print says, it is up to search engines to honour this request.
When the required information is entered, click on the 'Install WordPress' button. After a few moments you will be asked to log in to your WordPress website. Enter the username and password you've entered in the previous step to visit your WordPress Dashboard!
Getting started with WordPress
After having installed WordPress, we will send you an email with more information about getting started with your WordPress website. This email is sent to the email address you've entered in 'My account' in your control panel.
This email contains your personal TransURL as well. As mentioned before, you can use the TransURL to configure your WordPress website if your domain name is not yet available or if your domain name doesn't point to your web hosting package.
When logged in to WordPress, you will arrive in the WordPress Dashboard where you can manage your WordPress website from. In here you will be able to add pages and install plugins and themes to fully customize your WordPress website.
