On our VPS platforms you have the possibility to create snapshots. These are one on one copies of your VPS as it is at the time of the snapshot's creation. Snapshots can be created in the control panel under 'Storage' >'Snapshots' (see this tutorial).
You can add additional snapshots to your VPS during the order process, or add this option later to an existing VPS. To add the snapshot option to an existing VPS, you can order snapshots in the TransIP control panel (under 'Overview' >'Order add-ons'). A VPS can save a maximum of twenty snapshots.
- The snapshot can be used to restore a previous state of your VPS whenever you want.
- When canceling a VPS, snapshots are also canceled.
- For privacy and security reasons we have no access to the contents of a snapshots. As such, snapshots can only be restored as a whole, not its individual files.
- We recommend saving your work and turning off the VPS when the snapshot is made. This ensures any recent changes to files are saved in the snapshot.
- The differences between backups and snapshots are explained in this article.
